The American rock band Evanescence is one of my all-time-favorite bands. I fell in love with Evanescence from the second I heard Amy Lee’s voice. Their debut album ‘Fallen’ is still one of my favorites in my music collection. In fact, this album has helped me cope during a rough time of my life.
Synthesis is the fourth studio album by Evanescence and was released on November 10, 2017. That’s only two days before I received my copy! It includes reworked versions of the band’s previous material, like their mega-hit singles “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal”, with an orchestral arrangement and electronica music elements. With a delicate hand, they have stripped away anything Rock-n-Roll and replaced it with electronic twinklings dancing alongside epic orchestration, giving the songs a completely different atmosphere.
And, what makes Synthesis feel even more like a wholly original album, is the inclusion of the two new songs “Hi-Lo”, featuring a guest appearance from violinist Lindsey Stirling, and, the impressive album closer, “Imperfection”.
If you are going to re-imagine old work, this is how you do it! Evanescence’s Synthesis is a rare example where the reworked versions are as good as – and sometimes even better than – the original versions. Amy Lee’s vocals are absolutely stunning.
