Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. There is no better time to take a look back at your relationship. Some of you may know of my bearded boyfriend, and future husband, Count vlAD. He’s not only a wonderful man that no one can seem to say a bad word about, but also a talented IT specialist, a passionate BBQ lover, a wonderful father (unfortunately we haven’t got any children together) and kind caring individual. I know, I know… I’m a lucky girl!
It started with a “Hello”.
When people ask how I met my bearded boyfriend, I usually give them the fun, short version: “at a Volbeat concert during the FortaRock 2016 edition”. I am cool with coming off like lovestruck hipsters, but the real story is a bit more complicated than that.
Mostly I tend to gloss over one not-so-minor detail having to do with our meet-cute: my own head and heart were in a bit of a kerfuffle. You see, when I decided to accompany a friend to the metal festival in Nijmegen Goffertpark, my previous relationship had hit rock-bottom. There was a gray ambiguity that hovered over me.
Keeping this to myself, I spent most of the festival trying to settle my feelings. My mood was certainly not fit to flirt. I wasn’t even looking for a relationship! So when my friend introduced me to two guys she already knew, I didn’t think much of it. In fact, all I said was a quick “Hello” and I went back into the audience to enjoy the Volbeat concert.
Approximately six months later, after my previous relationship definitely came to and end, we got in contact again by Facebook. After chatting for some time, we went on our first date (drinks), and another (El Mundo Fantasia), and another (lunch), and another (movies) until I lost track and it became understood that we may actually be dating. And we were having fun!
It felt easy. We were becoming close, quickly. So quickly that I moved into his place a few weeks later. And now, two years and (almost) three months later, we’re still standing together.
