LA Splash Wickedly Divine Lipstick

This will be my very first product review post. As most of you probably know, I usually write about my recent photo shootings, vinyl or book collection and everyday adventures (like festival visits). Normally I don’t see my blog posts as reviews. I would describe them more as some kind of journal (diary-like post), in which I write about my actions, thoughts and feelings. But, I wanted to give product reviewing a try. So, here we go, hope you guys like it!

Lipsticks are a bit of a thing of mine, I’ve come to realise. I recently posted some pictures of my favorite shades on my Instagram. Plus, as a Villainette Prospect, I am living a “lipstick” lifestyle. And right now I am beyond obsessed with the Wickedly Divine Liquid Lipsticks by LA Splash Cosmetics. And there’s no better day to publish a review of these wonderful “lippies” than on National Lipstick Day.

I discovered the liquid lipsticks by LA Splash Cosmetics through a friend’s recommendation. Because of she was so enthusiastic about this brand, I decided I needed to try this lipstick myself.

While searching on the world wide web, I stumbled upon this amazing lipstick collection called ‘Angels and Sinners Story Book Collection’, which has been released on March 15th 2017. They claim the formula to deliver a long-lasting super comfortable wear. Something I needed to check out for myself.

The full ‘Angels and Sinners Story Book Collection’ features no less then 16 lip products total. It consists of the Sinfully Angelic Lip Glosses in eight lovely shades (Afriel, Angelique, Erela, Seraphina, Gleam, Divinity, Ambriel and Haziel) and the Wickedly Divine Matte Liquid Lipsticks, which also come in eight dark mysterious shades (Kiss of Death, Fallen Angel, Moriferous, Brides Revenge, Evil Darling, Vampire’s Fang, Dragon’s Blood and Black of Night).

Each product (lip gloss or liquid lipstick) retails for approximately € 16,00 each, so if you are only interested in a few colors, you don’t have to get the whole bundle. And, because I did’t wanted a lip gloss, I decided to buy myself four lovely dark shades of liquid lipsticks only. I just love a dark “vampy” look! So, I treated myself to Kiss of Death (901), Mortiferous (903), Brides Revenge (904) and Vampire’s Fang (906). The names of the shades alone made me want to buy them!

I have to confess I just can’t get enough of the packaging. I really love love love it! It’s a really unique, and almost a bit Gothic, design. You can see the color through the bottom part and the crystal on top of the wand, which looks a bit like a crown, is such a cute detail. This packaging is just made for us dark princesses!

And, most important, LA Splash Cosmetics kept their promise! The formula of these lipsticks is really silky and comfortable. It goes on on super smooth, has a great pigmentation and doesn’t feel dry at all. Each color stayed on for a long time and I could barely feel that I had put lipstick on. Really amazing!

Furthermore, the (new) teardrop shaped wand gives you a more precise application. And because of the wand has a little pocket in the center which holds the product, you don’t need to dip the product multiple times to fill your lips.

To conclude: this lipstick makes me very happy. Plus, this LA Splash lipsticks are vegan-friendly as well as cruelty- free, which makes me even happier. It’s good to know that the ingredients used are good for me and the earth.

Evanescence’s New Masterpiece

My sweet boyfriend bought me the brand new album Synthesis by Evanescence. And it’s truly a masterpiece!

The American rock band Evanescence is one of my all-time-favorite bands. I fell in love with Evanescence from the second I heard Amy Lee’s voice. Their debut album ‘Fallen’ is still one of my favorites in my music collection. In fact, this album has helped me cope during a rough time of my life.

Synthesis is the fourth studio album by Evanescence and was released on November 10, 2017. That’s only two days before I received my copy! It includes reworked versions of the band’s previous material, like their mega-hit singles “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal”, with an orchestral arrangement and electronica music elements. With a delicate hand, they have stripped away anything Rock-n-Roll and replaced it with electronic twinklings dancing alongside epic orchestration, giving the songs a completely different atmosphere.

And, what makes Synthesis feel even more like a wholly original album, is the inclusion of the two new songs “Hi-Lo”, featuring a guest appearance from violinist Lindsey Stirling, and, the impressive album closer, “Imperfection”.

If you are going to re-imagine old work, this is how you do it! Evanescence’s Synthesis is a rare example where the reworked versions are as good as – and sometimes even better than – the original versions. Amy Lee’s vocals are absolutely stunning.

Amon Amarth’s Jomsviking

So happy with my brand new vinyl! My sweet boyfriend bought me the album Jomsviking by Amon Amarth. How cool is that!

The first time I saw Amon Amarth live was about a year back on FortaRock Fest Nijmegen, The Netherlands, during their Jomsviking European Tour. I have to say I was really impressed by their powerful show. With the big Viking himself Johan Hegg on vocals leading the attack you were made to feel throughout the entire show you were one with the Viking clan and being prepared for war.

When it comes to Amon Amarth’s large discography of Viking-themed blackened melodic death metal, Jomsviking certainly stands out. It is marked as “Amon Amarth’s first concept story album” and tells a dramatic and tragic story of love and revenge based on the history of the Jomsvikings. From opener “First Kill” to closing epic “Back on Northern Shores”, Jomsviking brings us the familiar rock solid sound of Amon Amarth with a little extra… a storyline!

In an interview for Blabbermouth, viocalist Johan Hegg described the concept of the album:

The Jomsvikings and their world is the background for the story of a young man that is in love with a girl but unfortunately she’s being married off. He accidentally kills a man when this happens and he has to flee, but he swears to have revenge and win her back. He can’t let go of the past. He feels that he’s been wronged and his life has been destroyed. The way the story evolves is not a happy story.

I have listened to Jomsviking a couple of times now and it really grew on me. My top three tracks are:

“First Kill”, which tells the story of a man who goes on the run after committing murder. He joins a group of mercenaries called the Jomsvikings, which sets in motion a series of brutal events. In “First Kill,” he commits his crime and becomes an outlaw.

“Raise Your Horns” is the first big experiment here. It’s a victory song after a successful battle/pillage. The verse riff is slow and melodic, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t heavy. In fact, what it sacrifices in speed, it makes up for in being really damn catchy.

“Raise your horns, raise them up to the sky!
We will drink to glory tonight!
Raise your horns, for brave fallen friends!
We will meet where the beer never ends!”

“A Dream That Cannot Be” fits well into the band’s collection of collaborations this time employing metal icon Doro Pesch. I’ve never cared much for her music as Doro, but the idea of including a female vocalist seems to fit the album. The song “A Dream That Cannot Be” tells the penultimate chapter, when the hero discovers that his lover chooses her own freedom and even threatens to kill him. This track serves as the emotional finale to the album.

Amon Amarth is definitely one of the leading melodic death metal bands around, and with albums like this it’s not hard to see why.

The Little Mermaid Picture Disc

My sweet boyfriend bought me The Little Mermaid Soundtrack LP Picture Disc. How sweet is that!

The Little Mermaid has always been – and will always be – one of my favorite Disney movies, ever since I was a little girl! And, if you love Disney’s The Little Mermaid then you definitely love the music.

The Little Mermaid was one of those cassettes (Oh, my goodness… feel so old now!) that I used to listen to often as kid, so I am so happy to see it make it on vinyl.

I have to say, these new Disney picture discs look gorgeous! They are a piece of eye candy for every Disney lover. A very cool way to showcase some of your favorite childhood musical memories in the vinyl format.

Small note: the disc is packed in a clear plastic sleeve. It would be absolutely awesome if it had come with the actual Disney artwork on a sleeve.
